A Family of Writers

Last week I wrote about my grand daughter...

This blog is about my brother, Richard.

1960
1981

Another week of bragging...what can I say?  You would too if you had a brother who wrote a book.  Not only did he write a book, it's his personal memoir.  Not an easy thing to do for anyone, especially when it contains very personal things.  But my brother is brave.  He has always been brave.  Imagine joining the Navy in the middle of the Vietnam War!  He did...

He is on the top row, 4th from left.  You can't see it, but he still had hair then!

After he got out of the Navy, he began body-building, and won many awards...one of them being Mr. Junior Milwaukee in 1981, and then Mr. Milwaukee in 1982.  After moving to New Mexico he worked for the Prison system there, and he opened up his own gym called Main Street Muscle.  In 1986 he won the National Gold's Classic Body Building Championship at 33years old.  Here is an old video of that contest-- it's not easy to see at times and it even pauses for a few seconds, but if you have patience, you'll see him win and get his trophy...it even resembles him!

Sometime later he moved to Texas, and while working as a deputy Sheriff, he went back to school, graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Organized Management.  He was a career law enforcement officer and an instructor for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.  He held the highest attainable Master Peace Officer License in Texas.

As you can see, once Richard puts his mind to something, he keeps going until he succeeds.  He is a hard worker.  He never gives up.  He is a winner.

In 2003, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

His book is an eye opening story of how he handled his diagnosis. As the title implies, he found himself looking down the barrel of a gun.  I am thankful that on that particular day, he did not succeed.  Instead, he turned his life around, and once again became a winner.  You can find his book here:

Richard can be found here:

And he started a web site for People with Parkinson's Disease found here:

Richard is one of the bravest people I know.  Instead of sitting around feeling sorry for himself, he keeps busy.  In addition to helping in the care of his mother in law, he also wrote a fitness book which can be found on his PWP website... and there you will also find a link to his Publishing company called Nettfit Publishing.

Oh, and in his spare time, he also fixes computers!

Here he is with his lovely wife,Carmen

Please go take a look at his book.  You won't regret it.
(I even got to write the synopsis on the back cover!)

Have a great week!

Aspiring Author: Rachael Soderstrom

Okay, here comes a bit of bragging...but what can I say, I'm a very proud grandma!!

May 10th - Rachael's 17th Birthday

My grand daughter, Rachael has been writing stories for quite some time and has been working on her novel for years.  She has now ventured out into the world of networking!  She joined with me and my writer "wolf-clan" over at the "Writer's Circle" - a group of awesomesauce writers on Facebook.  (You know who you are!)

And now, she's created a Writer's page on FaceBook and also started her own Blog!

It made me proud, happy, and excited to hear her squeal with joy each time another person followed her or liked her page tonight.   We were on the phone, on Facebook, and on her blog all at the same time while I helped her figure out a few of the glitchy things on each site.  We laughed together, we got excited together, and even after we hung up, I continued to watch her blog gain a few more followers! It's so cool to know she will wake up tomorrow with even more followers and comments posted on her blog.

Of course, this grandma posted links all over the place...I even sent it to my Twitter account! Can you blame me?  Look at this awesome kid!

Rachael is going to be a famous author one day...I just know it.  She has a passion for writing that not many have at such a young age. And her imagination is out of this world!

Please take a peek at (and follow) her brand new Blog here:

Thanking all of you in advance!
